Here is what is happening in my world as of late . . .

Here is a “quick” what-for for the the last few forays . . .

  • I think that I may be a tad bit nervous about the new building where the job has been stashed recently . . . it is the only way that I can explain actually having a “bad” dream about it. You see – in the dream – it was “Take Your Kitten to Work Day” – which sounds like – potentially – it could have been among the toppers of best dreams of all times . . . especially if you count the fact that I was getting to take my all new (nameless) little black and grey kitten (with little blue kitten eyes) to the office. But then we got to the new building (which at that point – I hadn’t even seen yet) and it was bedlam. There was no way to get all of my work done – and keep up with the kitten. He just kept on getting into hoodwinks and hijinks – getting where he shouldn’t be getting – tearing up paper – running under things – just doing very very kittenish stuff . . . and there was work to be done!!!
  • Last night – when I got into bed – there was absolutely no getting to sleep for me . . . and I know that I sometimes I talk about not getting enough sleep (okay – I always talk about not getting enough sleep – even yesterday – I was all like “I’m so tired” blah blah blah) – but this time it was so super seriously stupefying how my tiny little brain wouldn’t stop zipping around. I even tried to think of the whole “little black and grey kitten” from everyone’s favorite “Take Your Kitten to Work” dream from the night before . . . but to no avail. Eventually Little Bear (2) and I headed to (what is known as) the “pink room” to numb our minds with super late night tv.
  • I can’t tell (much of a) lie – but I have decided that I may be partially responsible for the whole not sleeping last night. For dinner we went to a bar-b-q establishment (which was tasty) where they advertised my drug of choice (sweet tea) as being in the house. I drank 3 (three) glasses while at the restaurant – and then asked for 1 (one) to-go. The waitress got kind of confused about the “to-go” part . . . but (like a real trooper) came back a few minutes later with a brown paper bag – that had been stapled. I was then the one that looked confused . . . but I took the bag (and thanked her) out to the car to get my glass of tea . . . only to find a plastic container. You know the ones from chinese restaurants that egg drop soup come in?! Well this one had sweet tea in it . . . So I did have 4 (four) glasses of sweet tea last night . . . so perhaps the mystery is one step closer to being solved. Oh – and before I forget – at the lab (current temporary command center) there was a new mystery sparked when there was a spark of confusion as to what I even meant by a “to-go glass” – it is a strange and slippery word that we live in.

THEN I GOT LAZY . . .

I wish that I wouldn’t get so tired – or better yet . . . I wish that I wasn’t so lazy. And believe me – in no way do I subscribe to myself being your typical kind of laziness “lazy.” No – no – no . . . it is probably more closely tied to being really bad at time/energy management . . . which could be an internal thing – or maybe an environmental one.

I always seem kind of busy – it isn’t like I am that dumb grasshopper that chose to dance and sing while the ants were running around storing food and stuff . . . I am constantly storing food – in my socks – in my pillow – in my cheeks – everywhere! But I think that I seem to have a pretty good idea of the limits of how much I can do – before I drop – at this point in my life (which – depressingly – seems to be a constantly decreasing amount – by the way) – and so what I have tried to do is get better at organizing things into digestible chunks. The key there is to not spend all of my time organizing (even though my brain – contrary to generally accepted thinking – craves it’s own style/brand/what not of ducks in a row) . . . another quick key is making sure to sleep sometimes too . . . I require enough sleep – the amount of which can vary considerably.

It would be fun to be a bit more sloth like – like where I was going super slow and steady towards whatever goal sloths are going for – but I tend to jitter around way way too much (not always always outwardly) to be sloth like. So I think that I need another animal goal to live up to . . .

It is a quandary and a conundrum and a mystery and a riddle and a pea in a pod that won’t get shucked today (shucks!) – but at least it is out there in the ether . . . so there is that . . .

Yawn (dles)

TODAY IN THE SHOWER . . .

Today – when I was getting out of the shower – in a particularly distracted state of mind – I realized that . . . uhm . . . I wasn’t exactly done. I had completely forgotten to wash the shampoo out of my hair.

How ridiculous is that?! I guess that I was planning on just going through the day with a spectacular new shampoo-doo – or something like that. The way that it went down was that the water was off – and I was reaching for my towel and I went to brush the water off of my face – only to find a soap trail that led straight up to the top of my head.

Ridiculous – ridiculous – ridiculous. . .

I then had to do an about face back into the shower – where in my continuing absent-mindedness – I turned the water on while in it’s path – which is nothing short of a direct invitation to either a serious freezing or scalding type of party. I ended up at the colder of the two – which sent me flipping against the wall while my hand tried (quickly) to figure out the proper temperature setting.

Eventually all of the soap went away – and this week’s showering episode was complete.

What?! Is the “weekly” thing getting to you?? Well I did get rained on a couple of times this week . . . so by my book – I am as clean as an unused whistle . . . I was thinking of a train whistle – but I think that they may be kind of greasy – and then regular whistles that have been used are all full of spittle – so that is both not-so-clean and bleagh at the same time . . .

I am as clean as an unused whistle!

Alright – here is a “quick” rundown of some stuff that has caught my fancy in the past week (or so).

  • Last Thursday – when I got home from work (about 1:10 am or so), I had the “pleasure” of meeting two (2) very large raccoons. They were sooo huge and waddling and only about twenty (20) feet away from me – when I got out of the car that is . . . I, of course, had to try to get closer – but only got to about fifteen (15) feet before they scurried away. The really unfortunate part of the whole thing is that they weren’t very cute at all – just fat (about double Spot Elliot by my guess . . . or 45 pounds for those that don’t subscribe to the Spot Elliot frame of measurement).
  • Last Wednesday – on the way to the train (the Grand Central Train) back up to the (slightly more) frigid north . . . I stopped inside a shop – that I have been going to for years – to get a cookie. It is by far my favorite cookie – my favorite favorite. I was shocked to find out that the price had jumped from $1.75 to $2.00. I even said “What?! Did cookie prices go up or something?” and the man behind the counter shrugged and said “My boss . . . My boss . . .” – which was the best answer that he could have ever given. I took my cookie – paid – and ran.
  • Remember how I was having a “crummy day” last week?! Well I do – and I think that I have partially figured out why that was happening – I got all kinds of sick right around then – so I am pretty sure that was part of the whole “crummy-ness” of the overall situation . . . feeling better now – even though it is winter time in April – booooooooo.
  • Here is the last bit for this second in time – the other night (and this ties into the being sick thing – because I got to take medicine – which can sometimes lead to fun dreams) – blah blah – the other night – I was having a crazy dream which culminated with everyone telling me that I weighed 172 pounds . . . and by everyone – and mostly the reason for this post at all – is that none other than Robert Downey jr. did a guest spot – a cameo (if you will) – in my dream to tell me that I weighed 172 pounds. The (almost) best part was how medicine laced vivid everything was . . . but the (best) best part was when I woke up and weighed in at exactly 172 pounds – not a tick higher or lower on the digital scale. [And now I have officially stopped eating – because that is a high water mark for me – ahhhhh night time cookies . . .]

Today is one of those crummy days that other crummy days live most of their lives aspiring to be – but never actually achieving – because, today, the depths of “crummy-dom” are so deep that there is no way that any but the crummiest of crummy days could ever become what a crummy day today is.

Seriously – I’m not sure that it is all that bad – but it is a day where I worked super duper late (4:30 a.m.) and then had to get up to finish off a bunch of stuff before catching an early train to get to a meeting. None of that stuff is at all really that crummy – though. The crummy part sneaks in with the cold dreary heavy rain that makes you want to stay in bed and hide under the covers – mixed with a wet dog that decided not to pee when we went for a walk in the deluge –and a level dose of the (need for) sleeps and the sleeps and the sleeps.

I just thought of the best plan – instead of writing for the next 1/2 (half) hour . . . I think that I may be better served by visiting with my pal – Mister Naperstein – or better yet, even, Misses Napeltinenbaum. They always seem to make me feel better.

Sleep well chickens . . . sleep well.
