So here I sit. In my castle. Whiling my time away. I can get a mite bored – so I talk to my dog – but he usually doesn’t have much to say. So now I talk to a mic – because that’s less crazy – and it’s easy to convince myself that I am just procrastinating . . . and not being lazy. So – thanks for the listen – you get a gold star. Hopefully you will enjoy what you hear. Hardy-har-har-har.

And between times, that’s me time Rufus T. Rufus 0:13 and my me time I grind rollover to the skipper’s, cabeza de Loup. And now, because I don’t like to rap ado, I’m gonna send it over producer to you. Producer 0:27 Well, I’m a frog in the bag and they sitting in the log, and you know that I mean, time on my grind because there’s no, I do like to rhyme on the frog and to give him a bargain, you know, I see it on a log. And I know I’m the fear because I’m sitting right here and I’m sitting in my slime. Rufus T. Rufus 0:45 Wait a minute. That was pretty amazing. But what do you mean, you’re sitting in your slime that kind of threw off the whole vibe of what we would go in for I think, yeah, I remember he was talking about bogs and logs and frogs. Now, that was all kind of fun. But then I’ll add a no ways. Like I’m sitting him some slack. And I didn’t approve. I don’t know what that sounds kinda. I don’t know. Maybe a little yucky to me. Producer 1:19 When I was resisting did you name if I’m a frog, and frog some things were kind of sliding, especially if we’re in a swamp in a bog, which is kind of like a swamp and different sitting on. Log in a bog. Just like a frog. It gets kind of slimy. I don’t know. What happens. It’s natural for me. Aloysius J. Pig 1:44 Yeah. Okay. I guess. Can we cut the music real quick. Got it. Got it. Got it. Thank you. Okay, so I think in the future, maybe we just need to work shop arrives a little bit just so we don’t get into any kind of uncomfortable situations. On it’s much nicer. Okay. Nice. Better Music. Bumpercar Yep. Have you even said what we are yet? No. Oh, hi. No, I’m Natty Bumpercar 2:07 so sorry. We just went right into the song. I’m Natty Bumpercar And this is the bumper podcast and want to say hi to Radio Free Montclair as always, we had so far Aloysius J pig. And we had Rufus T Rufus. And we had a producer, he’s the frog. And everyone I did some research and frogs. Actually, they are slimy. That’s he was not saying anything weird. He was just kind of speaking his truth as it were. So it’s okay. Producer, we appreciate your thank you. I appreciate that. Regardless of how slimy you are. Okay, Producer 2:48 so, the Okay, cool. You made a joke? I did it. Do you? Matter? Do you take anything? Seriously? Yeah. Rufus T. Rufus 2:56 Boy, this is gonna become some sort of an intervention, isn’t it? I’m gonna go ahead and just say, Nettie, you’re not on the hook, regardless of what you say here. So if you say yeah, of course, I take things seriously, that’s fine. And if you say no, life is but a joke. And that’s fine, too. You know, it gets kind of like, producers slam prog thing. We understand that with you. perception of reality, and how you deal with things means that sometimes you’re going to be a little bit more than all the time. Um, yeah, Natty Bumpercar 3:32 I mean, okay, then. So I don’t really know what to say. Of course, I do take some things seriously. But then, yeah, what you just said? Do I really have to talk about this rant? Yeah, I’m fine. I, I do take things seriously all the time. But then I also try to laugh at the world because otherwise a massive thing. If people say, Oh, you don’t laugh, you’re gonna cry. It’s true, right? There’s a lot going on in the world, a lot of scary stuff, a lot of unpleasant stuff. And you wake up every day and you you have choices how you’re going to, we always say to the kids, it’s not how you it’s not that you did a bad thing. It’s, it’s how you’re going to deal with it after it’s done. Right? So let’s say you dropped a glass of milk. Right? And if you then start screaming at your brother or something and saying he didn’t even know it wasn’t near you, then that’s not awesome. But if you drop a glass of milk and then you say, oh, no, I dropped a glass of milk. Let me go get some some a towel or paper towel or whatever, and clean it up and clean up my mess. That’s awesome. Right? So it’s all in how you react to things. That’s how did I get to this? I think I’ve become very convoluted and unconfident. Yeah Rufus T. Rufus 4:59 I mean, we were asking you if you take anything seriously and then you started talking about milk and now I’m thirsty and we don’t even do we have we don’t even have paper towels anymore. We have bamboo towels which just kind of float above the liquid. It’s kind of interesting how that works out. But yeah, you know, I don’t know. I always just Natty Bumpercar 5:21 hold on we just said voice man, is that you? We didn’t have we breaking news. Okay, everybody stop what you’re doing. We have some sort of news coming into the podcast. This is great. Voice Man 5:32 Hear from me COVID down only news this gets me voice man with some breaking news. Well, today a turtle was spotted in someone’s yard. This turtle was just watching turtle yarn, but the owner of the house was asking is this turtle? someone’s pet? Is this turtle by himself? Who is this turn? Oh, wait. Natty Bumpercar 5:56 I don’t know if you can hear me voice man. But it’s the breaking news seriously that there was a turtle in somebody’s yard. Voice Man 6:02 Maddie you have to understand that turtles are well known slow thieves. They’ll break into your house your car very slowly. And so the homeowner wanted to know immediately if they should be concerned about this turtle. Oh no slough Rufus T. Rufus 6:21 thieves. I have never what is this? This is jibber jabber that you’re you’re promoting here voice man. This you come on to the show you interrupt me by the way. And now all of a sudden you’re going to talk about how turtles are what a day the enemy of the people. I don’t I don’t I don’t buy that one. I’m not a lawyer of this podcast, I have to say, I want to make sure that we’re not saying anything about art at all. Brethren, that is you know good. We could be liable for that we could get in trouble for so yeah. Voice man. I’m gonna ask you just to kind of slow down a little bit on the turtle talk until we get this handled. Okay. Voice Man 7:12 I completely understand but uh, here the coffee can ally newsdesk, I bring the news to you Natty Bumpercar 7:20 over over 400 episodes in and we’ve we’ve we’ve never had a breaking news during a podcast so I don’t really what the was it the turtle? That’s what you decided. This is the episode that I have to break into because there was a turtle on somebody’s yard. Voice Man 7:39 There’s not a lot of news happening and round coffee. Sometime sometimes, you know, news man a weather news man like myself finds myself sitting here at the desk and just looking for stories and this came across and I figured I would try it. Rufus T. Rufus 7:56 Now now. No good. No, no. Strike one voice man when the news is important, especially local news, but this is like hyper local, and it’s about a turtle so it turtles not I did some research I looked over not known there as there were no reported accounts of a turtle breaking into a house or stealing a car. No turtles have ever done this. According to the internet. Everyone knows the internet never lie now Natty Bumpercar 8:33 I don’t I don’t know if we should say that the internet never lies because there’s a lot of places that stories come from. But yeah, I agree. I don’t want to besmirch turtles we actually have if you look at our analytics for this podcast so many turtles that listen and so to all the turtles out there listening right now to the bumper podcast I apologize moving forward we’re gonna have you know any breaking news stories vetted out Aloysius J. Pig 9:02 excellent reminds me I got a postcard in the mail that says I need to get vetted I need to get vetted what do you what do you mean get vetted What are you talking about to go to the vet to get looked at a checked out or will my my yearly pig examination you know get my not get everything checked worked on Natty Bumpercar 9:22 okay you know that’s that’s called going to the vet That’s not called Getting vetted. But as soon as you’re done with the show, I will call and make an appointment for you to get you checked out you’re Producer 9:37 going yet if you’re making an appointment for Aloysius it’s possible you can sir make an appointment for me because I also need to go to the to the vet for yes you to action that I have been going on okay. Natty Bumpercar 9:52 Oh producer I’m okay. Sure. Is that Is there a you Okay? Is there anything that I need to worry about or If anything at all, Producer 10:01 I didn’t want to talk about it, especially in light of what voice man said. But I was walking through the swamp the other day and the turtle came up to me and he beat me up a little bit. And I think I just don’t well, I’m feeling a little bit off. Wait. Natty Bumpercar 10:23 Wait, so you’re saying a turtle. Okay. Maybe I made our turtles maybe not as nice as I’ve come to expect. Am I in the wrong about turtles? Does anyone know about turtles? Please reach out to us and let us know. Seriously Voice Man 10:43 another bit of breaking news. I’m sorry to interrupt but I was already here another turtle has been spotted in a different yard. This turtle has been found to not be someone’s pet. This turtle was wearing a banjo on his back and was headed he said to Music City. little turtle oh Natty Bumpercar 11:10 we’ve had two turtles, three turtle stories now in one day. The first is it was one a pet. The second one was producer getting beat up by a turtle which I’m not laughing at I swear. And now the third one is that there’s a turtle with a banjo on his back who’s said he’s headed to Music City. So we’re really running the gamut today on turtle stories. It must be a slow news day Rufus T. Rufus 11:36 now. Oh, Natty I’m gonna beg you to never do that again. Ever. Oh, that was our that hurt me that joke actually hurt me was a joke was that exactly. I was here and listening. But I didn’t hear and normally I try to see how many jokes I hear but I didn’t understand he made a joke Producer 11:55 about slow news. Hi, everybody, it’s me Natty Bumpercar And this is the bumper podcast. Now, you might be wondering, why are you so excited Natty? What can possibly be so great that you’re so excited? Well, we decided that we’re going to bring back a cool new segment here on the bumper podcast, with our pow Aloysius J pig. It’s called pig interviews. And so without further ado, I’m gonna Aloysius J. Pig 0:34 Hey, Natty. What did we do? What are you doing? I do want an intro for the pig interviews thing. Natty Bumpercar 0:38 Yeah, I’m super excited. Like, we haven’t done an interview and so long like, and people used to love those. And we did the interviews and so I’m, Aloysius J. Pig 0:47 I’m super excited. Yeah, excitement might be a little bit premature, as they say in the business. As I know, we talked about doing an interview, but I actually don’t have any kind of interview set up. We we never actually did that. Oh, Natty Bumpercar 1:03 wait, but I thought we talked about doing it. And I figured that since it’s your second segment that you were just gonna go and like find somebody to interview and, and do it. Like, you set everything up. Aloysius J. Pig 1:15 I we’ve known each other for a long time. Now, I think and I think it’s, it’s very presumptuous of you to assume that I’m going to discuss, we kind of talk about something that I’m then going to just get up and go do it. Like, you know, I need I need a list. It’s a bullet point or something No, like an actual call to action or something. But But I Natty Bumpercar 1:39 I don’t want to waste the podcast on this. But we had a meeting. And everybody was like, you know, how can I be more involved and producer we talked to him about what he can do. Which was I think, like make new music beds because this was getting kind of old. We talked to Rufus about I don’t remember what I talked to him about honestly, but we talked to you about we talked to do to poodle about making new artwork for every episode. And but we talked to you and we said okay, pig, you want to thing you had this pig interviews and just go go and do that again. And I did you did you did you need more? Like, like, yeah, like I said, Aloysius J. Pig 2:15 I wanted I wanted some bullet points. You know, I mean, I work off of lists, and I work off of bullet points. So if you could just put that into bullet points and I think I would very much appreciate it and then I could be up be out on my way out my business and Natty Bumpercar 2:30 whatnot. Okay, cool. So here’s your bullet list. Ready? Go do an interview. That’s it. Bullet go do an interview Aloysius. That’s, that’s that’s your list. Really. If you want me to break it down, find someone to interview and then interview them. That’s really it’s all you have to do. And then we will put the segment pig interviews back into the show. Is that okay? I sound mad. I think I sound Do I sound angry? Rufus T. Rufus 3:00 Me Rufus. Rufus. I just heard there’s an argument going on in here and I just wanted to make sure everything was okay. You know, as the resident lawyer and also sometimes the HR department, I like to stay on top of things tipped up things and I’m trying to make sure that everything is smooth like butter. So Is everything okay? Aloysius J. Pig 3:21 Yeah, no, it’s so it’s not okay. Cuz Bumpercar Over there. He evidently we had some meeting and I mean, I don’t know, you know, we have all these meetings. It’s always like, Oh, look at my schedule. It’s like, oh, we have a meeting. Oh, we have another meeting. Meeting. The meeting. I have an email about the meeting about the minutes too many meetings. So I kind of might maybe I zoned out. I don’t know. I don’t remember. But evidently, he’s expecting me to interview here today. And I ain’t got one so and he’s all you know, he’s all up in arms about it. And I don’t know what to do. Well, yeah, I’m Natty Bumpercar 3:52 frustrated. But I don’t want to make the whole show about this. So we’re just going to move on. We’re not going to have an interview. And that’s fine. It’s we’ll just talk about something else. I’m gonna have any ideas? Yeah, I Rufus T. Rufus 4:05 got me an idea. It’s gonna make everybody happy. Aloysius, you’re gonna get your interview. And Nana you’re going to you’re going to be able to calm down a bit. Why don’t Natty Bumpercar 4:18 we’re not going to interview you Rufus. Absolutely not. That’s not it. No, absolutely Rufus T. Rufus 4:22 not. I wasn’t saying that. What I was saying was, you know, I’ve got an idea. Why don’t you interview one of your children bumper car? Aloysius J. Pig 4:31 Are they still around? Are they still okay? I’m fine with that if that’s what we want to do. Go bumpy go rascal wrangler one year, kids. Let’s do this. Natty Bumpercar 4:40 Bumpy. Okay, I’ll be right back. You guys do what you will. Aloysius J. Pig 4:43 Yeah. Huh. I don’t really know what oh, hey, wait, there’s one of them. Now go grab Rufus. Go grab that one. You wait would child please come on over here. We’re Rufus T. Rufus 4:54 gonna Aloysius wants to say hi to you. Aloysius J. Pig 4:57 Okay. Hi, Al. At wacky I always forget I get you to mixed up. Which one? Which one? Are you? Are you? Are you being? Are you rice? Are you? Chicken? Are you rice? I’m very hungry evidently. Emerson 5:11 No, I’m Emerson. Aloysius J. Pig 5:13 Wait, are you serious? That’s actually your name? Emerson 5:16 Yes. Aloysius J. Pig 5:18 Great. So I guess I’m supposed to end have you weigh anything going on in the world that you get excited about? Maybe Emerson 5:27 summer? Natty Bumpercar 5:28 Hey, guys. Good. You found Emerson pig. So are you? Are you just going to talk to him? Or is that what’s going on? Aloysius J. Pig 5:34 Yep. Yeah, so you can go on about your day. Bumpercar And I’m gonna sit here and we’re gonna, I’m gonna interview with a kid you know, so we can talk about whatever we talk about, right? Yeah, that’s fine. That’s fine. Emerson if he says anything mean to you just let me know. Rufus T. Rufus 5:49 Okay, hold on a second. Yeah, that’s fine. He’s not gonna say anything mean to you? Not with I’ll stand here. I’ll be God. So I’ll protect you from this pick. Yeah, all right. Aloysius J. Pig 5:59 Yeah, it’s gonna be fine. Anyway, so you said your name was Sam or something? Emerson 6:04 Emerson? Aloysius J. Pig 6:05 That seriously? Your name? Emerson 6:07 Yes. Aloysius J. Pig 6:07 Okay. All right. I know what it does. Every time I say it. I’m just like, is that really his name? But it is so Emerson good to get to meet you. How do you spell that? Is that like, Emerson 6:20 E R? S O N? Aloysius J. Pig 6:21 e m e r s o s like a song? It is doing it don’t let me write e m e r y FQ I know. Emerson 6:31 E M E RR. Aloysius J. Pig 6:33 e m e os. That’s e n e r s o m e. S O N. Sun. The last three letters of your name is son. Who’s your brother moon? Rufus T. Rufus 6:49 Hold on Allah wishes that we talked. There was good one. No, we don’t bump a god and we’re gonna be nice to this job. Don’t Don’t be making fun of note. None of the kids. Okay, if there’s just got to be nice. Yeah. All Aloysius J. Pig 7:01 right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, fine. Okay, so and my son I’m Aloysius we’ve met before, correct? Are you a vegetarian? No. It’s interesting. Okay. What about the pool? Do you go to the you like go into the pool? Emerson 8:01 Yes. Aloysius J. Pig 8:02 And what do you do they I mean, that’s that’s the basic answer. Yeah, but if you like do do run around the pool. Emerson 8:11 Yes. Aloysius J. Pig 8:12 Well, you’re not supposed to run around the pool. Isn’t that the rule? No running. No horseplay. No shenanigans. Emerson 8:19 No. Aloysius J. Pig 8:20 Do you get into shenanigans at the pool? Emerson 8:22 No. Aloysius J. Pig 8:23 Okay, well, that’s good. I was worried that you might do Can you do a game? Have you ever done a side flip? Emerson 8:32 No, but I’ve done a front flip. Aloysius J. Pig 8:34 A front flip. How’s it is so terrifying because like you’re you’re looking and you’re flipping in your eyes and you’re spinning up in the air? No. Wow. That’s very impressive. Are you going to take any any big trips this summer? Emerson 8:51 Yes. Aloysius J. Pig 8:52 Oh, well, you’re gonna go Emerson 8:53 Cape Cod. You’re not coming? Aloysius J. Pig 8:55 I can I please I know. You guys would always go there. But can this you know let me come Can I please come to the beach? I don’t want to talk to him. He’s mad at me right now because of this whole interview situation. Fine. I’ll talk to natty You got any other things you want to say on pig interviews today? Emerson 9:14 No. Aloysius J. I want to thank you for coming by. Did you have any fun? Yes. Okay. Well, you’re you’re a man of few words. Really. This is I appreciate that. You’re succinct. That’s what they say in the business. Well, good to meet you son of Emma. And my son used to get that son of Emma. It makes you sound like you’re from Thor or something like that. Odin son. Mr. Sun, maybe maybe, okay, well, you out you run along and do all that good stuff. We’ll check you later. Okay. Emerson 10:08 Yeah, Rufus T. Rufus 10:09 well, there he was. I mean, that was a legitimate interview it went a few minutes and we really found out a lot about. He’s gonna, child is gonna go to the pool where he’s going to swim. He’s not going to engage in horseplay. He is going to break the rules of running a little bit, which we do not approve of, honestly, but hold on. It comes next. Let me yeah, we’re done. Come Natty Bumpercar 10:30 on. Come on in. Hey, hey, hey, guys. How did it go? I sent my kid just ran past me was that was a yo k was everything. Okay. You Aloysius J. Pig 10:38 know, it was good. Yeah, he was good on the microphone. He actually answered some questions. You know, it’s, what are these kids? Sometimes it’s like, yes, no, no, Natty Bumpercar 10:49 maybe it’s like, it’s like you’re you’re interviewing a scantron test or something. But that’s, you know, it’s fine. Because, you know, he seemed to enjoy it. He seemed to have fun. I don’t know whether he ran out it really? Yeah. But I mean, it wasn’t he wasn’t like running out crying or anything. So the great, awesome, so that you know what, fine, you win, Rufus. That was a great idea. We had a pig interview. And but normally, so I think let’s try to figure out some more. If there’s anybody out there who wants to be interviewed by pig and be on the bumper podcast, we’d love to have you. And, you know, if you whatever you do, if you make stuff if you don’t make stuff if you like stuff if you don’t like stuff, let us know. And and pig would love to talk to you. He’s normally an expert Interviewer I have to listen to this one at the end to see how it went. But I think it’d be fine. How did we produce it? We haven’t done that in a while. How Producer 11:43 are the levels? You know, I’m surely not evil, either child who’s kind of fired from the mic, but I think I can boost it up and I can make it work because you know what, that’s what the producer does. Make it work. Natty Bumpercar 11:55 You do get it get it. Outro 12:09 The bumper podcast is an oftentimes hilarious weekly romp with Natty Bumpercar and some of his pals. Aloysius J. Pig 0:04
Okay, first things first, I really got to say hello, radio Fremont class today, we’re really happy you’re here and we’re happy that you’re gonna stay, and yada yada yada that you hit a play hip hop array, right? It’s me. I was just jpg.

    Natty Bumpercar 0:22
Okay, yeah, sorry. It’s me. Natty Bumpercar started to start to step on you like that big no problem. How was Did you practice it before? Because it doesn’t sound like you did.

    Aloysius J. Pig 0:32
I? Well, I was freestyle. And that’s what you do. And it’s what you in the bass. It’s what you do. You know, you you come up onto a hot mic and you’re like, Oh, I’m gonna spit some bass. I’m gonna say I’m gonna, you know, I got some rhymes. I got some bars. Bars. I’m gonna. I’m gonna give it to the people right now. Gift. I’m gonna give you the gift of my words.

    Natty Bumpercar 0:54
The gift of gab from Okay. Well, great. Thanks. Hi, radio. Fremont glare. It’s me Natty Bumpercar Here. This is the bumper podcast. It’s a weekly podcast, but we are lovingly working with radio free Montclair and giving you guys first dibs at the episodes. So if you ever want to go back and listen to any of the other hundreds of episodes, just look up Natty Bumpercar and the bumper podcast. And you’ll have you will have things in your ears for a long time, which is a good thing.

    Aloysius J. Pig 1:29
    I don’t know. I

    Rufus T. Rufus 1:30
know not. I decided everyone. This is me. Rufus to Rufus. I’m a lawyer here for the bumper podcast and I don’t really dip my toe into marketing because I feel like that’s the dark arts. I feel like it’s mystical, magical stuff that I don’t want to be involved with. But I think probably seeing people you will have stuff in your ears is not the best

    Aloysius J. Pig 1:55
tagline. Yeah, well, I did go to a restaurant once. And on the front it said welcome to this restaurant. When you leave, you’ll have food in you.

    Natty Bumpercar 2:07
Okay, so it wasn’t even like we’re friends meat or anything. It was just your you are gonna have food in you. At least it was food. It wasn’t just like your belly. Oh, have something some something.

    Rufus T. Rufus 2:19
I just I used to eat when I was a boy child I used to eat at a restaurant called something something and whenever you go in, they’d have a special of the day. And I’d have to say is it’s a young man, what would you like to eat today? And I’d say you want to order the spreadsheet you just say add like little salt and salt. Yeah. And then you’d get it they’d bring it out to you or whatever it was for the day.

    Aloysius J. Pig 2:43
I can’t believe you used to go to some some I’d ever do ever have to some some SassaFrass souffle. Oh, it was some magical stuff. Well, okay,

    Natty Bumpercar 2:53
before we start, this is great. You guys are going down memory lane. But before this is actually an episode kind of about memory lane. Not restaurants. But about field day because this week it’s Field Day at the kids school

    Rufus T. Rufus 3:08
Aloysius. I’ll talk to you on the side about something some I really feel like we could probably open a franchise around here. Can you imagine the lines? People I think people be nervous at first but then once they get a taste Yeah, they do. They’d be right in they have some some special all day all day long Swan songs on special running song some special with extra gravy.

    Aloysius J. Pig 3:31
I mean, yeah, I think maybe we could do that. Put our focus on some some and move away from this old podcasting because this is a guy you go ahead and talk about your field day.

    Natty Bumpercar 3:44
Okay, cool. Um, I love that I’m the backup plan now. So anyway, I remember growing up with field day, and you know, it was we used to do things like three three legged race and I don’t know like water balloon toss, and there was like a giant jump rope and everybody that would be spinning and you’d have to jump the rope and whatever. And it was a tug of war. I remember very specifically in tug of war it was it was on an asphalt blacktop and my team last but not only last, but like we I don’t know how the people pulled us and drugged us across the blacktop is what I remember. And

    Rufus T. Rufus 4:30
I remember the tug of war now. So remember, at my school, when I went back to the schoolhouse, the school mom would say, everybody, it’s time for Field Day, and we’d all get very excited. But you understand I’m a little bit older than you and I grew up in a more rural area, aggregate farmers whatnot, and for fun for us Field Day was and they would just send us out into the field. You know, go on out into the field. Now

    Aloysius J. Pig 5:02
that’s so funny because where I grew up, I grew up on a farm because I’m a pig and all you know, and for us, everyday was field day the way they’d say, We they’d feed us they still eat. So we like to say, Okay, I’ve got to the field and we had just one sheep. She would say, oh, it’s field day, you get all excited. I’m like it yesterday was good. Like, tomorrow is gonna be field day. Every day is field day. We’re on a farm.

    Natty Bumpercar 5:33
Okay. So obviously, you guys, your experiences are very different from my experience, like because I was a kid in school.

    Rufus T. Rufus 5:42
I’m pretty sure I indicated that I was also a young young living child in a school. I mentioned my school mom. Yeah.

    Natty Bumpercar 5:51
I agree. So but the so the difference is, so we had like, you know, a playground and we would play like dodgeball, which was super fun. And there was we played like, capture the flag, and just all kinds of silly races, like, egg on a spoon.

    Aloysius J. Pig 6:10
I know, I know, we’re not supposed to talk about something, something you already told me that. But they had this thing on the weekends, it was called the egg on a spoon. It was delicious. It was like this deviled egg. And it was right on the spoon. Right. So you didn’t have to like pick it up and get you know, that egg goop on you. It was just right down around the spoon. And so you’d say like, Hey, can we get an appetizer of egg on a spoon and then they bring you out I think there was six or eight or whatever. And on a on a little platter. And all the eggs are on different spoons. And so then everybody could just reach in grade the spoon, an egg on the spoon, but sometimes the egg would actually fall off and you’d lose it so that’s that’s so funny because that’s exactly what the egg on the spoon race is given deviled eggs to children who are outside that sounds like a good recipe for for some some stomach

    Rufus T. Rufus 7:08
    issues. No, no, no,

    Natty Bumpercar 7:09
no sorry. So they’re not even they’re not real eggs. They’re just like plastic eggs like, like you find it Easter or whatever. And but they go on on spoons, and so they’re kind of slippery. And it’s a relay so the kids have to run back and forth with the egg on the spoon. The spoon drops you have to bend down, pick the egg up, put it back on the spoon and keep going until your team wins. There’s a lot of there’s a lot of team activities that feel

    Aloysius J. Pig 7:34
it sounds like a it’s like a team building exercise or their trust falls and stuff like that. I think Hey, Rufus, do you think we should have a field day for the for the bumper podcast? Like maybe get everybody together and have I mean wouldn’t be many people obviously yeah, we could I don’t know we could try

    Natty Bumpercar 7:51
so there’s no trust falls in grade school. I don’t and that’s the saddest thing is like field day pretty much in grade school like it doesn’t happen I don’t think maybe it does in middle school and stuff but it’s why why not just keep having field days everybody loves Field Day kids freak out for field day because it’s so much fun because it’s very low stakes but there’s also competition and and and who wins everybody wins because it’s Field Day

    Rufus T. Rufus 8:24
sorry Aloysius I was over here looking through our contracts and what actually it is this is page 14 section eight subset F which I guess could stand for field day where it says that we are actually not allowed to participate in sporting activities as a group that’s no good. Yes and No of course unfortunately you know that this what this came from correct

    Aloysius J. Pig 8:55
Ah wow, I didn’t even think about it. It’s just because in a time that Doodle Poodle Okay, everybody let somebody say

    Doodle Poodle 9:05
hi, it’s me. I was just over in my studio making say to every party her podcast what

    Producer 9:27
do the Buddha Nature me i producer and nothing as stepped out. I don’t know where he went exactly. But every day the gang here was talking about Field Day. And then reverse suggested that perhaps we should have a bumper podcast Field Day and but then he was looking through some papers and evidently there was

    Aloysius J. Pig 9:51
it was an episode there was a thing that happened and we tried feel that’s such a section If I can’t remember exactly who was not sure Okay

listen, doodle poodle everybody has put it behind you. Everybody has forgotten and we’re gonna move on and I’m sorry that you were even brought into this this was actually you know this is honestly a mistake obviously. And you go back and do your totals and everything is gonna be okay

    Doodle Poodle 10:25
I just want to make sure that everybody’s not mad at me or nothing though guys I’m still pretty sad about everything that happened and I want everybody to forgive me but I’m not gonna

    Producer 10:42
send you some kind of upset don’t ever you should come down do you don’t need all everything is going to be a girl Hi

    Natty Bumpercar 10:50
natty hey did I do to poodle just walk past me in the hall and he seemed a little bit upset is everything okay?

    Aloysius J. Pig 10:57
Yeah, we were talking about field day and somebody said his name and then he came in but then he seemed like he got kind of upset and yeah,

    Rufus T. Rufus 11:06
I saw him as well. Where you got to do to someone referred to the incident because you know we were contractually we’re not supposed to talk about the incident

    Producer 11:15
i May I might I may I might have said something but I tried not to be specific at all. I didn’t want to upset him I am feel bad now that if he’s upset we were having such a nice episode talking about the restaurant restaurant and the fate of day memories. By the way in the swamp school where I went because I’m a frog we had a beautiful field. Oh, that’s good. Lily. Lily pad from toss

    Natty Bumpercar 11:44
you play frog toss but your frogs what?

    Aloysius J. Pig 11:46
None of this makes any sense to me. Hey, we’re a real fish you want to get out of here.

    Rufus T. Rufus 11:51
Let’s go talk about something some French Ah, all

    Natty Bumpercar 11:55
right. Well have fun it Field Day.

There I was unsuspecting, naive, maybe even. My youngest nine year old, came down with the COVID. He got the COVID The COVID is in the house and we put him in his room. We said Your, your now, Rapunzel bumper car up here in the room. Here’s a bell. Ring it if you need to look niggling in the evening, if you need food, whatever, ring twice. It’s very hard because this child he likes he likes to hug. He’s a hugger. Every day, I love you and He gives you hugs. And we couldn’t hug him. He was just over there. It was just like Ah, just put those in like a dual hug bank and then when you’re done you can just deposit withdraw all the hugs and then and then give us all the hugs. Please. Sad child. He was fine though. Honestly. He was living his best life. He was in his up in his in his is parapet, I think is maybe where he was we live in a castle. And he was he you know, had food delivered. He had all of his beverages and we would take them up and then we would take them away. We would had multiple screens where he could watch things he could play thing. Like he was doing great. His brother couldn’t get to him to attack him. So it was really I said, How are you feeling? Are you okay? And he’s like, Dad, this is the best vacation I’ve ever had. And I was like, Oh, wow, that’s really bad. Okay. Oh, we’ve been to the beach. No, we’ve been to some mountains. No. Been to a lake. But this is we’ve been to the big city museums. But this is this is this is it. This is the pinnacle. All right. Good to know, good to know. You’re easy, it’s easy to accommodate. Now I want everyone was in their rooms. So he was in his room. My wife was in was in our room. I took the couch with the other child who has a hard time sleeping by himself and the dogs. So we really, we were the core of the house. There were a lot of us down there. And on Wednesday night, what I’ve discovered is the dogs wake up several times a night several times a night. And they Oh, I was exhausted. This was Wednesday night. I was just like, I don’t feel good. I am exhausted because they got up at like 1131 33 Like every two hours or so. Banjo gets up and he was like, I gotta go outside. I’m like, okay, sometimes I’m like no business. Sometimes I do say okay, because if you don’t, he’s he. I mean he’s licking your face. He’s put his pawn yet. Like, hey, hey, and everything and so we got to get him outside. And he runs around in circles, Giants. Would you stop with the yipping in the yapping Producer 3:06 a natty I hate to burst into your story here but your three minutes and hey, I want to welcome everybody. Hello Radio Free Montclair. We’re actually recording this for them. So perhaps you should ask. I know normally on the show. You just kind of jump into a story and everyone’s supposed to catch up. Oh, yeah. But oh, ketchup. fries, ketchup. Right. But right now we want to welcome Hello, Radio Free Montclair. Natty Bumpercar 3:31 You’re right and I apologize. I Radio Free Montclair. This is me Natty Bumpercar at the bumper podcast here at headquarters, and we’re recording this episode. I’ve had three weeks of COVID related shenanigans in my brain that don’t work like it used to. And I was just I wanted to relay my story. Producer 3:52 Okay, perfect. You’re laying is starting the podcast for the radio Freeman. Claire and this one the viral and it’s good like you doing it. But you don’t have to tell us every single little thing you know, just kind of move the story forward. Go quickly and stuff. Natty Bumpercar 4:06 Yeah, I agree. I’m sorry. So kid, got it. And then third went there Wednesday night up. Thursday, I says to positive, didn’t feel great. Call the doctor. She sent me to the urgent care. They did another test. Well, actually, first, the doctor said why are you here? And I was like, because my doctor told me to come here. I didn’t I didn’t know what to I didn’t know what to do. And that’s always weird to me when you go to a doctor’s office and like well, why are you here? And it’s not like hi, how can I help you? Why are you here? It’s why are you here? You’re like, I don’t know. And so they put me on this Madsen deal stuff had crazy dreams like crazy dreams. Rufus T. Rufus 4:44 Sorry. This is me. Rufus to Rufus and I was brought over here by Allah wishes to let you know we cannot discuss the dreams the dreams are dreams and that crazy but they could still implicate some things if you understand what I’m saying. If you get My poor Alright, yeah, fine. Let’s just move along with your story. Natty Bumpercar 5:04 So fine. So the story is I stayed downstairs sleeping with no, I was upstairs for a while for a few days. And then because they put the they like put me in the door and they put tape tape on it to keep the sickness in or something. And after four days or so I ended up on the couch again with a kid and the dog. Why? Well, because the kid tested positive as well. And so now the wife is has sequestered herself up in her tiny little room and the other child was fine at that point go back to school, which is great. But the other child who had tested positive was now home going crazy because the children when they got it, they seem fine. It was you know, you hear stories of people are like God COVID It’s nothing. It’s just a cold and you’re like, No, it hits people in different ways. Did different there’s so many variables if you’re a kid, if you have red hair, if you get it on a Tuesday, I’ve heard it’s especially rough. If you eat Limburger cheese and just lingam or OWL other kinds of cheeses are fine, but if you eat that while you have it Oh, you’re a big trouble. So sorry shout out to the lingo burger Cheese Company. Didn’t mean to call you out. Is that really Lincoln? Burger? Not doesn’t feel kind of cheese. So it feels like a made up cheese Linnaean burger. Producer 6:26 That’s not right as Lynn burger lamb burger. It’s a smelly cheese and a lot of times they use in jokes, like an old cartoons and stuff. Limburger cheese, not Lincoln burger. You’re thinking of Lincoln berries. And then you’re putting that into cheese, which I don’t I mean, it could be possibly Yeah, just but I don’t know. Also, not particularly germane to the story, right? Natty Bumpercar 6:47 Who’s German? I’m kidding. Who’s Jemaine? That’s a joke. So while I was in bed, just crazy fevers, crazy fever, dreams, aches. I developed vertigo, which is where the world feels like it’s spinning around and but for me, they were like it they there was very specific language. They were like that have they have to unlock like, it’s like an a video game. If you go up to the guy and you say, I’d like to scroll, please. And he’s like, there is no scroll and you’re like, ah, I’d like to scroll of Lindenberger. And he’s like, Well, of course he has this scroll of thinking bug that’s how it is with doctors where if you don’t say the exact words and they’re like well this this doesn’t sound like it checks the boxes sorry champ. And so I was trying to describe it I was like, oh I can come up with was my brain feels like wow, wow, wow. Wow. Where it’s going in all different directions and my body feels like it’s going into different directions. They’re like so the room is spinning. And I was like no, it’s more than that. So much more my brain my body has taken dizziness to the to the to the 2020 twos and really has made it so much more than just oh the room is spinning like the room is spinning. That sounds like fun. Now what I was going through was wow what Wow. And it’s just something that we should be copywriting while we’re while we’re while because it’s fit feels like it has legs like something that we could definitely market and brand and get out there. Oh, this isn’t just grandpa’s dizziness. This is now well Wow. Wow. Wow. No. Yeah, I understand. It’s it’s certainly an idea. I love I you know, I love ideas. I love imagination, let people come up with things. But I think probably branding, a new version of dizziness isn’t really what we’re going to be doing. We’re not going to focus on that right now. If that’s okay, Oh, speaking of focusing on things. While I was sick, I managed to I wrote a short story. Friend of mine edited it, edited, edited it in it. It’s just under 1000 words, and I submitted it and it got rejected. And that’s great. That’s fine. It’s very exciting to me. I’ve never, I’ve had all these words in my brain. And sometimes I just have a really hard time getting them on to document and then actually having a friend to edit stuff is I need to I don’t know what you do with people who edit your things. I guess I’m gonna lock her in some sort of the barn here and I’ll bring her bas because people everyone knows people who edit. They love getting A’s. Anyway, and so I submitted that and then I also I made an online store for the CGA thing that I that I do Cedar Grove artists Alliance, and I made all the shirts I think I made like six different shirt variations designs and and and so that exists and I had to go through all the whole process when I when I first was doing web stuff a million years ago, setting up a store was like I’m at a store now it’s like really like there’s a lot But it’s like do you have your this thing? Do you have that thing? We can connect to this? Would you like for us to do this? And it’s all just like, oh, everything was like a huge learning process. But it exists and I actually forgot to have to launch it. Today. I was supposed to do it Monday. But then guess what? This week COVID came back COVID came back. Producer 10:18 I guess so glad you didn’t. I thought you’re gonna do like a song like, the COVID came back and you really don’t feel good. Or something like, Hey, write the cover EVs back. Hey, the coffee. These are the coffee. These are your Natty Bumpercar 10:36 coffee. These are okay. There. I love that producer was so excited to jump in with the AI is that his microphone wasn’t even on and then he kind of clicked in in the middle of it. That was very exciting. Good job. So yeah, I, it was a couple days ago. And listen, I’ve been talking to virtual doctors and I made a virtual Doctor wince. At one point. He was like, ah, when I told her what had been going on, and I said it you just wins. Because you don’t want to see people you don’t want to see wins. You don’t want to see pilots wins. You don’t want to see doctors wins. And you don’t want to see Carson wins. Hell, it’s a football joke. I don’t know who he is, but I know that name. And it just popped into my head anyway. So basically, I ended up in the emergency room for the stuff I still have. They gave me fluids, they gave me medicine. They gave me something called an anti vert vertigo, and everything checks out. I had an EKG and they said that I sound great, which makes me happy. And when they tried to give me the anti vert I said Ooh, wouldn’t be funny if it was an anti Bert. And then they were like what and I was like Hooper. And they were like No, no. Producer 11:49 Yeah, doctors aren’t typically known for their senses of humor. They find your funny. Hey, oh, Natty Bumpercar 11:55 let’s wrap it up with a funny bone joke. Outro 12:09 The bumper podcast is an oftentimes hilarious weekly romp with Natty Bumpercar and some of his pals. Aloysius J. Pig 0:08 Oh, you’re finally going to cancel the show you’re gonna move on to something else. Natty Bumpercar 0:12 No. Is that what what is that what the people want? That I was gonna Yeah, Producer 0:18 so we’ve been getting a lot of feedback that people say you don’t record often enough to nude says you got I don’t know we need shirts can happen and I can’t keep up with my pod feed is all messed up and you don’t put out new episodes you know, it’s like that and so people get very very upset about the whole thing you know. Natty Bumpercar 0:34 I mean, that makes sense. But I believe we’ve been really busy. I mean, really, like really busy, like, you know, I mean, if people want to jump on the Patreon and get instant, some some money. I mean, not I do this for money, like I just wanted that to be known. But I priorities. I gotta I gotta I gotta put food on the table for all the babies. Oh, the baby’s gonna how many babies you gotta you gotta get no babies like the old at this point. I think I’m one of them was probably in college or something I don’t. Come on. He’s a terrible excuse is what do you been so busy doing? All right. Well, I will say I, we actually went on a vacation. We went on a trip, we went far away, we went to a place called Florida. And it was wonderful. I mean, it was terrible, you know, in some parts, but it was wonderful. I’m not going to complain. I feel like I just complained. Why would I? Why do I always complain? It was it was so it was hot. It was like 85 degrees outside and the sun, we were closer to the sun, I feel because I actually got a little bit sunburned and not on the first day, which is, you know, like, Hey, we’re vacationing, this is what you do. And so we were staying in this place. And outside the back window, there was a deck, and there was a waterway where we could see the water and there were boats in the waterway. And then we saw manatee Now hold on a second here. Those are the cows of the see you. Yes, they are. And you know what I was just realize, because we actually saw two of them and they were playing together. And I don’t know what the plural version of manatee is, man. So manatees, that’d be like possessive manatee mean, it feels like sheep, like where it’s just like a look at that sheep. Hey, look at all those sheep. You know, it’s I think maybe manatees the same way where it’s the singular and the plural of the same word, which kind of blows my mind. Aloysius J. Pig 2:33 I don’t want to get into a grammar conversation because it’s no one listens to podcasts for that, especially if you don’t have the actual answer. This is what you’re doing right now, as you’re doing one of those podcasts where you’re like, we have 10 episodes, and we’re gonna go deeper into this thing than anyone has ever gone. And then at the end, you’re like, but we don’t have answers still. You’re like I just wasted 10 hours of my life. Producer 3:01 Just watch. So what Piggie saying do you don’t know the answer and we have already people are upset that you don’t record often enough, you know, you’re bringing to the table things that you don’t have answers to. And so it just it all feels a bit. I don’t know. Maybe you should take another another break. Really? Natty Bumpercar 3:22 What you wanted to do, you know, I was excited when we hit record. I was excited. I wanted it so in Florida, it’s hot suns closer. sunburned. And there were two pools right at the at the manatee. So we saw them empty and yes, no, I don’t know. Singular, plural. Maybe we’ll remember that for next time. We won’t. But so we were watching some Manatee and we also saw a dolphin go through the little waterway. It was like a dolphin. And but there were two fools on the other side. And, and we found out that one of the pools was heated. So it’s 85 degrees outside and they had a pool that was heated, which was phenomenal. I mean, it sounds gross. Because when you get in it, it feels like you’re in soup. But the best I mean like ah, oh, let me tell you. My kids are getting up at like eight o’clock in the morning to go through it. That’s called swearing. And I was like, huh, because I don’t want to know in cold water when it’s eight o’clock in the morning. It’s just not what I want to do. But do I want to go into a warm pool maybe like there’s a lot more of a chance that I want to go into a warm pool that’s that’s absolutely for sure. So that was it was it was nice. And you know we we played miniature golf. I got two holes in one in a row. Rufus T. Rufus 4:51 Is that what you’re doing this podcast and tell us that you’re moving on to be a professional miniature golf Nelly. That was that what’s your what’s your thinking? You know Korea move was going to be Natty Bumpercar 5:01 No, I didn’t say that there was going to be any kind of new career move. I just said that I was excited to I forget what I started the podcast with what we’re like, I just wanted to do something like, I’m excited to be here. And you know, Aloysius J. Pig 5:14 you just said yes. Excited. I’m so excited to be anyway. So speaking of great, you went to Florida, we get it good for you. Oh, you’re a big man. You go on vacation. We were all sitting here, wondering where the food was wondering where the paper towels were wondering who was going to draw our baths, et cetera. Doodle Poodle 5:36 Hi, it’s me. Doodle poodle. Did somebody say want to? Know does anybody have any pens and paper? Natty Bumpercar 5:57 That’s adorable. Well, real quick. In Florida we did. We were looking at some books at a bookstore. And on the rack, there was a book that was titled, The poodle who doodles Rufus T. Rufus 6:12 Now hold on a second, I didn’t realize that had you? And we’ve been writing books. And we’ve been publishing books. I haven’t seen any contracts for for such things. No, no, no. Is this is this a new career that you’re talking about? Natty Bumpercar 6:26 No, no, no, no. Again, no new career, but I didn’t know what to do. I was I was like, looking at this book. It’s a kid’s book. And it’s got this dis poodle. And he doodles. And I was just holding it. And I was looking at it. And I was like, hmm, well, this is a strange thing. Aloysius J. Pig 6:48 Now, I know, this ain’t really my purview. But I, and this is a weird question to ask, but are we? Are we copy written? Are we are we protected under the law? Like, what? How does if somebody’s going to come up and write a book like al the pigs says, How do you do something? I Natty Bumpercar 7:08 mean, like what’s I don’t understand what’s happened? Rufus T. Rufus 7:10 Well, now I this is my first time hearing this and so I haven’t, you know, obviously, I had time to do in a research. I haven’t had time for my interns and pages and whatnot, office staff to help me research but I’m gonna look into this because it seems like it might be an issue. I mean, on not necessary. I mean, not that we’re going to do anything about it necessarily. But the issue is that we don’t want somebody to come around us and say we’ve got this book about this poodle the doodles and you’ve got this dog over here that doodle food Oh, and they can’t he has to go away. Doodle Poodle 7:52 Have to go Natty Bumpercar 7:58 Come here, buddy Euro. It’s okay. It’s so we’re, it’s I think it’s gonna be fine. It’s just it was a really weird occurrence and we’ll we’ll figure it out. You know, it’s gonna it’s gonna work out I think. But it’s a little bit nerve wracking, definitely. But it’s going to be fine. Speaking of careers. I want to move on for a second because we only have a couple minutes left. Guess what’s coming back. Guess what’s happening? Oh, are you going to start mowing people’s lawns again? Are you doing? Are you back into auto culture while you’re doing lawn? Trees and shrubs and whatnot? No, no, no trees? No, no, I know that. No, no, no. But comedy. Comedy is coming back. I have I’ve been booked on shows. I have shows again, I get to go out to places sometimes very far away and tell people jokes, which is wonderfully exciting. I recently my guess was last weekend, I had a show. And it was in a barn. You’re doing shows and bonds now. Interesting, right? So the funny thing I was the host, and there were 123 other comedians, and I went up, I did my time. And as a host, it’s you it’s really difficult to to get the room to get their attention. And to kind of, you know, start the show off, especially because they’re all eating dinner, they’re chatting, there’s an open bar, so they’re doing other things. And so, you know, when I get up on stage, and I’m like, time for the funny and they’re like, ah, you know, and so it takes a minute or two to kind of break the ice and be silly and get them engaged and involved in the show. And so I did my time upfront and then I brought the first the wall the second comedian Up first is host me. The second is her and she did her time and then I got up and I just wanted to kind of did like a two minute thing in between the second and third comedian and it went great And they were like, ah, and I finally had them. Because at that point, I had kind of established my presence who I am. And you know, they have something to bite off of which is good. And building the rapport that said, I would say, I don’t ever say that. And then the third comedian went up, he did wonderfully. And before he got off, the person who was running the show, not the comedian, but the person running the show said, Hi, I need you to announce the cake after him. And I was like, oh, no, because there was one more comedian. And here’s the thing. This isn’t an age old comedy rule. This isn’t just every you can’t fight cake. You can’t beat cake. Right? So I got up and I was like, Hey, go give it up for him. All right. And now there’s cake. Everybody jumps up, runs for the cake. And the comedy show is just and so I keep talking. Because I didn’t know what to do. And then the, like, the comedian running, the show came up. And she was like, we’re gonna do an intermission. You don’t do intermission to comedy shows because the whole show is structured to build, build, build, build, right? It’s just nice arc. And what this was doing was build, build, build. And then there’s just a cliff that wow. And so but I was in the middle of telling a joke. And I made the mistake of finishing the joke, I should have just been like, and I’m out. But I didn’t. Because it was I was like, I’m already in this, let’s do it. But it was, it was there were three people in the room of 100. And whatever people that were looking at me, the rest of them were like, I want my cake. And so 15 minutes later, I had to go back. And now they’re all sugared up, they have they got their cake, they got their coffee, whatever. And and you know, it was comedy is a difficult game to play, but it made it exceptionally more difficult, but it’s okay, because it was it was fun. And now I have another show this weekend, and I am beyond thrilled to start having shows again. Because there’s nothing I love more than going to a random room full of people an hour and a half away from my home and trying to get them to laugh at things. It’s, it’s, it’s a very, it’s a very strange thing to try to do. Hey, who are you? You don’t know me, but guess what? I’m gonna make you giggle and they’re like, or I don’t know if you will, and I’m like me either.
